We are all excited for him. We will find out on Sunday if he made the team or not. Money will be tight if he makes it but it will be well worth it. He truly is an outstanding player. He might not be as good as the Premium All Star Team. However, if he does get picked up the experience alone can improve his game tremendously!

There are 3 levels of All Stars. There is the A, B, and C brackets. I think the A team is the best, but I will have to double check on that. The cost for this is approximately $165.00. For a family with seven kids that can be a lot of money. However, he will get some cool gear and stuff that says All Stars on it. I look at it as an investment into his future. If he really sticks with it up into his High School years he could get a scholarship perhaps and have his college paid for. That would be GREAT!

Zack's Baseball for the Brewers

Zack has been moved to the "Catcher" position. He is so thrilled to be doing this position. He has wanted to do this since last season. So far he has been the catcher for 3 games now. Zack started the games as center fielder and he finished out the last innings as the catcher. The coaches are very impressed with his abilities of speed and coordination. This is very essential for the catcher to have. Once he gets a bit more practice in this position there is no stopping him.

In the 3 games that he played in as the catcher he had done exceptionally well for a beginner. All the parents were impressed with his abilities. In the 2nd game which also was the first tournament game, he got injured two times and yet he still worked through the pain and made some good plays. He bruised his finger really bad catching a pop fly ball. Then when it was his turn to bat he was pegged by the pitcher in the ankle. So this could have been a big disaster. Zack had a hard time handling the ball and running for that matter. Being the good sport that he is... he ignored his pain (until after the game) and still was able to run fast and steel the bases and throw the ball to make the plays as catcher. Kudos to you my son for the hard work and effort you put into the game you love so much!

Mid Season Tournaments

Well, this weekend we had Mid Season Tournaments. Both teams didn't fair very well this go around.

Zack's team, The Brewers, lost the first and second game. That was the end of their run. Zack did excellent. The team had a lot of errors that cost them the game. Zack's performance was very commendable. All the parents agreed that is had done excellent in both games. He caught fly balls, he threw from the center field all the way home to get the out. He made a triple when he was at bat. A downfall to the second game was that they were up Friday night playing the first game until 10pm and then had to be on the field at 7am Saturday morning. Not much sleep for them. Needless to say I was very proud of him.

Connor's team, The Yankees, Lost the first game, won the second, and lost the third. His team did do a lot better. It was a total nail biter on the one that they had won. I didn't get to see it but husband did. They came back from being down by 3. It was an awesome job on their part. The third game however, had a lot of errors that they normally didn't have. Perhaps they were having a bad day???

I am very proud of both the boys and their achievements. This is connor's first season so he has some more work to do, but he is coming along nicely. He has a great arm. They might start having him do some pitching. He has a powerful arm. Hopefully by end of season tournaments... we can make it a bit further than before.

Yankee's Schedule

Here is the Brewer's schedule for the Spring ball season 2009.

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; After reviewing the kid's season baseball/practice times I am a bit peeved. Some of the practices don't start until 7:oo or 7:30. It gets dark here now at 8:00 (was 7:00 before time change). That means that practice is getting out at around 9:30ish. This is not acceptable to me. I understand my children love the game. However, they are only in the 5th grade and have a scheduled bed time for 9:00PM. These practices run past this time. Once they get home they still have to eat and shower before going to bed. The game times are ending up the same way... except they start even later!

Don't these coaches realize that school should be a priority? Going to class dog ass tired is not going to help with grade. Now is it? Fifth grade children shouldn't be out until 10:00PM on a school night. Am I the only one that thinks like this? I don't see any other parents complaining here. I know that Baseball is a competitive sport (even at this age). Something has got to give tho. Am I over reacting here? One of my kids has baseball practice today. I am so shocked that someone finally came to their senses and scheduled a practice. I guess all my ranting paid off, lol. Go Figure!

So here we are at Zack' practice. As stated before his team name is The Brewers. Today they worked with him on his batting and pitching mainly. He is having difficulty with his batting this season. The reason being is that the coach is making him bat in a different stance that is not comfortable for him. Last season, he did exceptionally well with the stance he had. It is hard to describe but he had a sway to him. It was almost like he was a rhythm hitter. Once he started the rocking back and forth, he would knock the ball out there.

This season, the new coach has him do a more traditional stance. He wants him to place more pressure on his toes rather than his heels. He gives him the example that he shouldn't be able to knock him over. Since this is new to Zack, he has a hard time and ends up with the pressure on his heels. This being the case he can't keep his balance once he swings.

My question is... "Is there really any thing wrong with him being a rhythm hitter"? I mean if that works for him, why change it? I know the coach wants to teach him the appropriate way. However, doesn't the old saying go... "DON'T FIX IT IF IT'S NOT BROKEN" or something like that? Just something to think about I guess.

Spring Break Practices

Well, here we are on spring break. One would think that the coaches would want to utilize this time to have some additional practices. Once spring break is over... the following Monday will be the first games played. If I am not mistaken that is Monday, the 23rd. This just makes absolutely no sense to me.

I understand that SOME people go out of town for spring break. These are just youth Baseball players here. They don't have that much of a social life as if they were in high school or college. Most parents have to work just like any other day. So why can't we have practice... just like any other day? You might have a few players missing...that just means that the the rest of us who are still here for the practice get a bit more one on one time with the coaches. That could help some of the kids a lot. It also makes the kids feel better when the coach gives them a bit more attention. Hay, we all love attention... don't we?

Here I go, ranting over something that I have no control over. I guess I have no choice but to just let it go. Now that I spoke of it... He started his first season (Fall Ball 2008)on the Red Sox Team. For his first season he had done exceptionally well. If memory serves, his team only lost 2 games. At the finals, the Red Sox came in second place. It was a very close game and we only lost by one. We were on the edge of our seats throughout the entire game. He received compliments stating that he has natural talent and that they couldn't believe how well he had done for never have played the game before.

Here he is at bat for the Red Sox Team. He made a triple here.

Here we are in his second season (Spring Ball 2009). He came across one of his old coaches (Coach Ricky) at the try outs. Coach Ricky wanted to save Zack so he could play on his team again, but was unable to contact us to make that happen. He spoke with Zack and said for him to play down his abilities. I know that's not what you would want for someone to tell your child. However, the reason he ask Zack to do this was because he wanted to be able to pick him from the draft. Zack was very reluctant to do this. I told him if he wants to play his best at the tryouts than that's what he should do. So he did! He was picked up by another coach in Division 1 (Coach Ricky was doing Division 2). Zack is now on the Brewer's team. They had their first scrimmage on 2-8. He made a triple and scored. He played outfield as well as first base. He then went to the other team to help out and played outfield for them. The coach is very pleased with Zack's performance. We are very proud of him as well. Can't wait for the games to begin.

Here he is in his uniform for the Brewers!

Connor's first season of baseball

This is Connor's (age 11) first season with baseball (Spring Ball). He was to old for the last season (Fall Ball). So far so good! He was selected by the NY Yankees at try outs. They have been practicing 2 to 3 times a week to get ready for the season to officially start. On February 9th... he had his first scrimmage. He hit a triple first time at bat and scored with next batter. When he was in the out field, he attempted to catch some pop flies but they were out of reach and ended up bouncing over his head. He is doing very well for someone who has never played the sport. We are so proud of him! Keep up the good work!

Here he is in his game uniform.
